Looking at IS research on strategic and organizational topics – the JSIS lens

Benoit A. AubertProfessor of Information Technology, HEC Montréal

Abstract:

The field of Information Systems is changing. The business landscape is being altered by rapid technology development, innovative business models, and a sustained business interest in digital transformation. As the Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS) focuses on the strategic management, business and organizational issues associated with IT, it offers an interesting lens to understand how this part of the IS field is evolving.
The presentation will brush a quick portrait of the evolution of the publications in JSIS over the last 20 years. It will highlight evolution in topics and methods, and identify elements that seem to be emerging or disappearing from the IS research agenda. Parallels will be made with Benoit Aubert’s own research agenda.
The presentation will enable researchers to better understand how JSIS is evolving, what is expected in a manuscript submitted to JSIS, what are the different types of papers that can be submitted, and how the papers are assessed by the editorial board. The presentation will raise broader questions about the boundaries of the IS discipline, and its linkages with other fields.
