The growing requirement for new technologies that understand the complexities of medical operations and provide an optimization in patient service delivery turns artificial intelligence into a particularly relevant factor in the healthcare industry. The overall objective of the current study is to unveil the underlying mechanisms through which a technology provider of AI-based solutions is transforming the value creation process in the context of healthcare ecosystem. In line with this objective, we are using a single in-depth case study of a recently created technological company (Empatica) that has become a successful and fast growing organization designing, and developing AI-based solutions to provide better services to the different agents involved in the healthcare sector. Based on the case study, we provide a multiple level analysis of the company’s interactions with various actors unpacking the elements of the orchestra model as one of four types of business ecosystems.
